Coorumburra Station

Coorumburra Rural Enterprises (CRE) commenced in 2001 and is an Aboriginal owned and operated private company established under Corporation’s Law to manage a cattle production enterprise on Coorumburra Station.

Management of the company consists of 6 Board Members, 3 from the Darumbal Traditional Owner Group and 3 from the Barada, Barna, Kabalbara and Yetimarla (BBKY) Traditional Owner Group. The Board has developed strong governance and sound business practices through the support of Mark Lewis of MLCS Corporate in South Australia. The property is managed by David and Sharon Howard.

The Coorumburra Station  property is approx. 27,000 acres in area.  It is a well regarded property with a major boundary being the Fitzroy River, which provides a year round water resource. Various water licences are also held. The property was able to sustain continued agistment during the 2002 “100 year” drought.

The property also generally has higher than average rainfall due to its locality to the west of coastal ranges—this tends to deliver higher than the regional average rainfall.

Coorumburra currently has a herd of around 1000 head and agisting approx. 1000 head. The carrying capacity has averaged around 2,000 (adult equivalent). As Coorumburra progressively increases it's cattle numbers, agistment numbers will decrease.
